Denmark offers TRUMP $1,000,000,000,000 to buy California and force Calexit
Denmark's Satirical Campaign to Buy California Mocks Trump’s Greenland Plans
A group of Danish campaigners has launched a satirical initiative to buy the state of California, mocking former President Donald Trump’s past efforts to acquire Greenland. Dubbed the “Denmarkification” campaign, the movement aims to crowdfund $1 trillion to purchase the US state and incorporate it into the Danish kingdom. The group humorously claims that once under Danish rule, California would adopt Danish values, with Disneyland being renamed “Hans Christian Andersenland.”
The campaign, which has already gathered over 200,000 signatures, mirrors the language Trump used when discussing the potential acquisition of Greenland. It playfully promises to "make California great again," while suggesting that Danish toy giant LEGO should handle diplomatic relations, given its experience in negotiating tantrums over missing bricks. The petition, laced with humor, states: “Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet? Yes, please.”
While the initiative is purely satirical, it takes multiple jabs at Trump, pointing out that he has never been a fan of California, often referring to it as "the most ruined state in the Union" and regularly clashing with its leaders. The campaign suggests that Trump might even welcome the sale, offering him a lifetime supply of Danish pastries, humorously adding that "Hollywood would pay for it."
The Denmarkification movement further teases Trump’s governing style, stating that “rule of law, universal health care, and fact-based politics might apply” under Danish rule. Additionally, the campaign proposes that Denmark would bring “hygge to Hollywood, bike lanes to Beverly Hills, and organic smørrebrød to every street corner.” The humorous critique of American politics suggests that under Denmark’s leadership, California would experience more stability and social welfare policies.
The campaign follows Trump’s controversial push to acquire Greenland, a Danish territory that also serves as a strategic location for the US military and NATO. Trump justified his interest in Greenland by citing national security concerns and the territory’s valuable location in the Arctic, which provides a key passage between North America and Europe. Prior to the start of his second term on January 20, he refused to rule out military action to secure control over Greenland, comparing it to the US acquisition of the Panama Canal.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, however, firmly rejected Trump’s proposal, stating that Greenland was not for sale. In a public statement, she reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to maintaining its sovereignty over the territory while expressing skepticism over the idea that the US would use economic or military force to claim it. Frederiksen emphasized that any US engagement in the Arctic must respect the wishes of the Greenlandic people.
The satirical Denmarkification campaign is the latest example of Danish resistance to Trump’s Greenland ambitions, reflecting widespread national frustration. Danish politicians have not held back in their responses to Trump’s claims. Right-wing MEP Anders Vistisen issued a blunt retort last month, saying, “Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale.” His closing remark, aimed directly at Trump, left no room for misinterpretation: “Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr. Trump : F off.”
